Graphite’s Tim Spence becomes LPEQ chairman

Graphite’s Tim Spence becomes LPEQ chairman Tim Spence, Finance Director of Graphite Capital, has been appointed as the new non-executive chairman of LPEQ, the association of listed private equity companies.

Mr Spence has been a board director of LPEQ since 2013 and has been active within the association since its foundation in 2006, as part of the management team for Graphite Enterprise Trust. He was instrumental in the formulation of LPEQ’s Investor Reporting Guidelines, the biannual Cashflow Compass survey of members and an 8-Step Guide to investing in Listed Private Equity, and has played a leading role in the development of LPEQ’s responses to major regulatory proposals.

Mr Spence succeeds Andrew Lebus, a senior partner of Pantheon Ventures, who steps down having held the LPEQ chairmanship since July 2013. This is a two-year appointment made by LPEQ’s board.

The priorities of Mr Spence’s tenure are:

• For LPEQ to engage with as wide a range of potential investors in listed private equity as possible;

• To increase understanding that private equity is a highly effective ownership model for companies; and

• To raise awareness that private equity can be a powerful driver of returns for longer-term investors which can be accessed for the price of a share.

Andrea Lowe, chief executive of LPEQ said: “Since our foundation in 2006, Tim has played a valued role across many of LPEQ’s initiatives. He has a deep understanding of the private equity model, both from the perspective of direct and funds of funds investment, while his on-going investor engagement for Graphite Enterprise Trust places him at the forefront of LPEQ’s efforts to raise awareness of this sector. We are delighted to welcome him as LPEQ’s new chairman.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Spence said: “The listed private equity sector now accounts for around €150bn of assets and is becoming a mainstream consideration for a diverse set of investors. I’m pleased to be taking on this role at a time when the strength of the private equity model is being demonstrated through strong net asset value growth and when the listed sector is growing. As we enter LPEQ’s tenth year, we are well placed to build on the association’s respected position as the international voice of listed private equity and to introduce more stockmarket investors to this growing sector.” ENDS
